Thanksgiving message from Pattie to all members on November 22, 2017

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.  I hope you enjoy sharing some time and food with your family members. Gather all those memories of the day’s events.  I do remember many a turkey that was so overdone that vast amounts of gravy had to be ladled over pieces to be able to eat it!

I was helping out at the Holiday Festival set up.  We had so many volunteers. Jon Morgan asked me to be sure to collect names of the volunteers.

There was Bill Palmer and his son, Timmy.  I had met Timmy at the Lion’s Build a Scarecrow event. Timmy had been there the day before and was there to help on the day of the event from beginning to end.

At the Holiday Festival setup, Ray Morrell had brought his two grandsons, Matt and Jack.   I asked if this was the first time that they had done setup and they said no, they had done this before.

Why am I taking time to bring up these incidents?   I love the idea of parents and grandparents sharing times of service with their loved ones.   The Lion’s motto is “To Serve”.  We are doing such a service to humanity when we invite our love ones to learn the value of serving in our community.

Not only were Ray and Bill actively serving but were modeling this behavior and value their children and grandchildren.  Bravo!  I applaud this.

I am so thankful for all the Lions that have worked tirelessly to make our events so successful.

I see you in the thrift store, I find about what you are doing to support our food service at our dinners. I see what you are doing for the Holiday Festival and Senior Santa events. I watched our volunteers at the Golf Tournament, the Tom Hedrick’s Senior BBQ, and the Build a Scarecrow event.   What a wonderful show of volunteerism.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I did see many Lions participating in the Easton Food Pantry Thanksgiving dinner distribution.

It made me feel proud to be a Lion!

Your Lion’s president and your servant,
Pattie Somers
