by Lorri Ventura – Easton Lions Peace Poster Chairperson
The Easton Lions Club is pleased to announce the local winners of this year’s International Peace Poster contest. Sixth grade artists at Easton Middle School submitted their art reflecting this year’s “Journey of Peace” theme. Winners are:
- Emily Wang — First Place
- Cariss Pineo — Second Place
- Faelon Ganshirt — Third Place
Students worked under the supervision of EMS art teachers Kristen Kelley and Kathie Hayes. Speaking of the contest, Kristen explained, “The students really understood the theme; they related strongly to it. I was especially impressed with the imagery they used to symbolize both a journey and peace.”
“I like this theme because we could be really creative with it, ” said first-place winner Emily Wang. “I put national flags in my poster because I believe that the entire world needs peace.”
Cariss Pineo summarized her poster by saying, “I made a dove delivering an olive branch to one person because I believe peace happens one person at a time.”
Local Lions Club contest chairperson Lorri Ventura noted that Wang’s poster will be forward to a district-level competition. “The Lions International Peace Poster Contest annually draws more than 450,000 entries worldwide. This year, there were 36 entries from 6th graders at Easton Middle School, with so much skill and creativity demonstrated that club members found it challenging to select just three winners.”
