Are You Kidding?!! We “do it” every year!

by Nancy Sullivan

What do we do every year?

The accomplishments of our Club that support our community’s service needs, and funding research for the prevention and cure of blindness make our Club continue to be an OUTSTANDING Club. Once again, Easton’s Lions Club, and our District are “NUMBER ONE” in the state in multiple clubs total donations.  The records are kept such that the accurate tally of donations is for the previous year to assure that all donations are “in” for the fiscal year before the reporting.  So, in 2012-2013 alone, the YANKS donated $1,003,306.77. Our District’s (S) raised $311,108.26 of that amount  in donations for eye research.  Easton’s portion of that is over $27,000.00.  We are grateful to not only our members who volunteer to make this possible, but also to our community who support our work.

Our State’s Lions Clubs contributed  $1,029,625.70 in 2013-2014 to Massachusetts Lions Eye Research, and presentation of Research Grant Awards to various research hospitals and laboratories in Boston. The list of major Grants awarded for 2013-2014 (this past fiscal year) include:

  • B.U. SCHOOL OF MEDICINE $169,000.
  • SCHEPENS EYE INSTITUTE $169,000
  • MASS EYE & EAR INFIRMARY $169,000 (which represents part of the total $5 million dollars that the Mass. Eye & Ear Institute has received in grants from the Massachusetts Lions)
  • TUFTS SCHOOL OF MEDICINE $90,000.
  • CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL $110,000
  • JOSLIN DIABETES CENTER $169,000

Total for Major Grants = $876,000.00!!

The Easton Lions Goal for 2013-2014 was to raise at least another $27,000 for eye research, while also raising another $50,000 to support community service work here in Easton.  We accomplished that goal.

In 2013-2014 we exceeded our goal. Our Club donated $29,590.00 and were recognized for our accomplishments on August 16, 2014 at the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund Awards Ceremonies and Banquet held at the Holiday Inn in Boxborough, MA.  Representing our Club at this event were Matt Soeldner, our Club Secretary, Nancy Sullivan, Board Member, and Joyce Tardito, member.  It was a wonderful evening of celebration.  Our Club was recognized for our total donations within District 33S.
