Thrift Store Volunteers

Volunteers at the Thrift Store.The Thrift Store has many needs and types of jobs that we need Lions Members help.  Below is a list of the many tasks we have.  If you can give an hour our two a couple times a month, we’d love to add your name to our list of contacts.  Please send your information to info@eastonlions.org and Matthew Cioffi will add you to the Thrift Store Volunteer List.  We are open Wednesdays 10-2 and Saturdays 9-3 and do restocking, pickups and other projects on on off-days.  Contact Information we need is:

Common Areas of Help

Set-up and Take-down:  (Weds 9:00-10 and 1:30-2:00; Sat 8:00-9:00 and 2:00-3:00) Putting out and picking up traffic cones and Lions OPEN signs; taking select items from trailer; taking care of steps (sanding if required – we have material); turning on and off the lights, heat, music! Taking the trash to the dumpster and knocking down boxes to go to recycle.

Helping Donors: Bringing items into store (or if clothing, linens or games into Ruth’s car); giving donors a signed and dated donation slip (donor is responsible to fill out the items and amount).

Sales and Helping Customers: Providing guidance to customers looking for particular type of items and helping load purchases into vehicles. Newcomers will receive direction from experienced sales folks for initial guidance until they become comfortable independently.
Pricing Helping regular staff with pricing new items.

Light Cleaning: Sweeping or vacuuming floor; polishing furniture; dusting off items before display; wiping down shelves.

First Floor Work: Organizing picture frames, books, records, DVD’s, CDs, stereo and electronic equipment.

Second Floor Work: (Ruthie’s area) – organizing candle selection, housewares and appliances, glassware, dishes, pots and pans, clothing, linens, games and puzzles, seasonal items, lamps , luggage…

Basement Work: Organizing hardware, sports equipment; generally cleaning up. Many boxes of new donations will come in through the basement.

Pick-up and Deliveries: We need a pool of 3-5 Lions who can respond on short notice to help John Mallers with pick-ups or deliveries.  If you have a truck you can use, that would be great too.  John Mallers can give you more details on this process. His cell is 781-706-4154.

Heavy Lifiting: Help move items within the display areas, to the trash, to and from vehicles and trailer.

Fix-it-up and Displays: Light electrical repair, furniture repair, replacing lightbulbs, signage, etc. We are always rearranging to display areas fresh.
